Edney, whom NPC members elected in December, began her official presidential duties on January 19. In a special address to the National Press Club's membership, she outlined her vision for the year ahead and stressed the need for the club's continued commitment to the defense of press freedom.
"This is a critical year because journalism is under siege from many sides," said Edney. "So this is the time to defend it, and to make sure that we all live up to the highest ethical standards."
A National Press Club member since 2009, Edney most recently served as the Vice President for the Club's outgoing President Jeff Ballou. Previously, Edney has also held Secretary and Treasurer positions on the National Press Club's Board of Governors, and was the longtime chair of the Scholarship Committee.
Edney, now an editor for the news organization, first joined Bloomberg as a reporter in Prague in 1997.
