Bloomberg BNA and Bloomberg Government Hosting Complimentary One-Day Conference on Trans-Pacific Partnership April 16 in Washington, DC
Members of Congress and Industry Representatives to Provide Insights into Key Issues Associated With Landmark Trade Agreement
ARLINGTON, Va., March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bloomberg BNA and Bloomberg Government today announced they would be hosting a complimentary one-day conference, "The Trans-Pacific Partnership: Setting New Rules for Trade in the 21st Century," in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 16 at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, DC. Presented in partnership with the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) and the United States Council for International Business (USCIB), the full-day conference will provide an in-depth discussion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement — the proposed international trade alliance between the U.S. and 11 other nations including Canada, Japan, Mexico and Singapore — and its prospects for success. For more information and to register for the conference, visit here.
Attendees will hear from industry insiders and policymakers, including two members of Congress on the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) and Congressman Sandy Levin (D-MI), who will debate the overall pros and cons of the agreement. The conference will feature opening keynote speaker Cathy Novelli, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, U.S. Department of State. Ambassador Michael Froman, United States Trade Representative, has been invited as the luncheon keynote speaker. Among the panelists at the event is former member of Congress James Bacchus, who served as an Assistant to the U.S. Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President and is now Global Practice Chair at Greenberg Traurig.
"If enacted, the wide-ranging proposals proposed in the TPP would reshape the economic landscape in the United States, Asia-Pacific and across the globe," said Rebecca McCracken, Executive Editor, Bloomberg BNA. "We are excited to bring such a top-notch roster of speakers to Washington, DC to discuss one of the hottest issues inside the Beltway. The conference will also go discuss the highly intriguing politics behind the TPP, which is strongly backed by President Obama and is the subject of an unlikely alliance pitting the White House and Congressional Republicans against liberal Democrats and some elements of the Tea Party."
Additional speakers include:
- Josh Kallmer, Senior Vice President, Global Policy, Information Technology Industry Council
- David Salmonsen, Senior Director, Congressional Relations, American Farm Bureau
- Gary Hufbauer, Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics
- Scott Miller, Senior Advisor and Scholl Chair in International Business, Center for Strategic and International Studies
- Chuck Dittrich, Vice President, Regional Trade Initiatives, National Foreign Trade Council
- Rob Mulligan, Senior Vice President, Policy and Government Affairs, United States Council for International Business
