Bleacher Report to Expand Lead Writer Program
Leading Independent Sports Media Destination Credits Initiative with Increasing Traffic to Site
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Bleacher Report, one of the fastest-growing sites and the Web's fifth largest sports media destination with 25 million monthly unique users, today announced that the company will build on its Lead Writer Program by adding an additional 20 writers over the next 4-6 months.
Designed to help give direction and guidance to the company's vast contributor base as well as shape editorial content, Lead Writers have also been one of the contributing forces helping increase traffic to Bleacher Report's Web site by 50 percent since launching five months ago.
"The early returns on our Lead Writer Program have been fantastic," said Dave Finocchio, Co-Founder and Vice President of Content and Product at Bleacher Report. "Given its popularity with our readers, now is the time to expand this program and as part of that process, we're looking for talented and fresh voices. We see this growth as another big step in creating a purer meritocracy for sports content creation on the Web."
As part of the program's expansion, Bleacher Report plans to hire Lead Writers with backgrounds covering specific sports including National Football League (NFL), college football, Major League Baseball (MLB), Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), college basketball and soccer. In addition to their writing responsibilities, Lead Writers will also leverage innovative platforms including video and social media in delivering news around teams and topics that Bleacher Report's readers are passionate about.
Launched in August 2011, Bleacher Report's Lead Writer Program initially rolled out with five prominent sports writers who brought a unique grasp of all things sports, pop culture and media, including Dan Levy, National Lead Writer, Matt Miller, NFL Draft Lead Writer, Dan Rubenstein, College Football Writer, Josh Zerkle, NFL Lead Writer and Bethlehem Shoals, NBA Lead Writer.
"The Lead Writer Program allowed me to quit my day job and devote 100 percent of my time creating written and video content at Bleacher Report," said Matt Miller, Bleacher Report NFL Draft Analyst. "Working at Bleacher Report over the last year has been the best career decision I've ever made. I'm living my dream."
