Blair Levin to Serve as Special Advisor to New Street Research
NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- New Street Research is pleased to announce that Blair Levin will serve as a Special Advisor to the firm's North American Office. Blair previously served as a telecommunications, tech and media policy analyst with Legg Mason and Stifel Nicolaus. He also served as Chief of Staff to FCC Chairman Reed Hundt from 1993-1997, as co-head of the Obama Technology Transition team, and returned to the FCC from 2009-2010 to lead the writing of the National Broadband Plan. As Barron's Magazine noted, Levin "has always been on top of developing trends and policy shifts in media and telecommunications … and has proved visionary in getting out in front of many of today's headline making events."
Jonathan Chaplin, head of New Street US said, "With all the government actions affecting the telecom, satellite and cable sectors, it is critical for our clients to have insight into the forces that will shape the policies. No one can match Blair's private and public experience in understanding the relationship between government action and market behavior."
Blair added, "I have known Jonathan, one of the most respected and thought-provoking of telecom analysts, for years and am delighted to be working with him and his team. They have built the most respected independent communications services research franchise covering North America, Europe, Asia and Emerging Markets."
Blair's work with New Street will focus on the likely outcome and impact of the government processes affecting public companies, including the Open Internet proceeding, merger reviews, spectrum auctions and accelerated efforts to rewrite the Telecom Act of 1996. Blair will continue his work on a variety of non-profit matters, including his work with the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Project and Gig.U project, among others.
