Blackpoint Cyber Hires Director of Business Development for Smart Properties
The quickly growing cyber security company looks to further its IoT/Smart Building initiative by hiring an expert with over twenty-two years of real estate experience
ELLICOTT CITY, Md., April 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Blackpoint Cyber announced the hiring of David Peterson to lead its Smart Property cyber security offering. Peterson comes to Blackpoint with over twenty-two years of real estate experience in the commercial property industry, having previously worked with Colliers International from 2011 to 2019 as the Regional Managing Director and Market Leader in the DC office, Grubb & Ellis as the Director of Property Management for the mid-Atlantic market, and with Clarion Partners in DC on high profile assignments for separate accounts and institutional clients.
The decision to hire Peterson comes at a monumental time, considering Blackpoint recently announced their new partnership with Colliers International to provide cyber security for commercial real estate via Colliers' new 'Neighborhood Curated by Colliers' platform. "The product and platform at Blackpoint Cyber are on the cutting-edge of technology required to safeguard commercial properties from cyber threats", said David Peterson. "Joining this team was an easy decision because their product and service are superior."
Building automation systems (BAS) in commercial buildings are efficient and convenient, but they also introduce a wealth of vulnerability. Blackpoint recognized this challenge from a cyber security standpoint and developed its Networked Industrial Control Operations Security (NICOS) module for securing both IT and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructures as a 24/7 managed service. Blackpoint's Managed Detection and Response (MDR) team will monitor, hunt, and respond to threats with IT and OT environments as well as those that cross the boundary. Blackpoint Cyber is already protecting hundreds of commercial real estate buildings, and with the addition of David Peterson, that number is expected to increase exponentially.
"There is a crucial need for cyber security in smart real estate", said Jon Murchison, CEO of Blackpoint. "With David's history and expertise, he is the perfect candidate to lead and develop our relationships in this industry so we can more effectively provide security to building owners, asset managers, and property management organizations."
