Black Duck Maintains Rapid Pace With Record-Breaking Third Quarter
New Customer Acquisition, Growth in EMEA and Asia-Pacific, and Expansion in Financial Services, Retail, Online Services, Automotive and Health Care Propel Growth
BURLINGTON, Mass., Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Duck Software, the trusted partner for open source software adoption, management, and governance, today announced the best third quarter in the company's history, with 43 percent top-line growth, supported by a record 53 percent growth in subscription business. Strength in its core technology-focused business was mirrored by rapid growth in new sectors including financial services, retail, online services, automotive, and health care. Substantial new customer growth was matched by renewals and service upgrades from existing customers.
Growth in EMEA and Asia-Pacific was particularly strong on a year-over-year basis. The company added significant new customers including Battelle Memorial Institute, Inmar, Nippon Otis Elevator Company, Xamarin, and Yodlee, among others, putting its total paying customers to well over 1,200.
Black Duck continues to grow beyond its core IT, electronics equipment, and software and services segments, moving strongly into mobile, collaboration/social, and financial services segments.
Third quarter 2013 milestones include:
- The release of the Black Duck Suite 6.5 with Deep License Data™, providing up-front insight into the embedded licenses contained within open source projects beyond the declared license.
- New additions to Black Duck's Ohloh community site, including new open source developer profiles that provide a "visual resume" showcasing skills, experience and contributions, and project contribution badges.
- Hiring Chief Marketing Officer Phil Granof to elevate the company's message and brand to the world stage.
"Technology-enabled companies in financial services, retail, health care and automotive realize the same value in open source technologies and methods as our core customer base of technology-producing companies, and are looking to enhance social development across their organizations," said Tim Yeaton, President and CEO, Black Duck. "Our growth reflects increasing awareness of the value of open source in every business segment and amplified support from our established customers, who continue to adopt our newest products and services to manage the advancement of OSS adoption in their enterprises."
