MIAMI, Dec. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Dragon Capital, a growth driven private equity firm founded by Louis Hernandez Jr., celebrates the winners of this year's 2018 Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.
"Black Dragon Capital is a proud supporter of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, which we believe effectively engages the business community in keeping human rights front and center when making decisions that affect the lives of members of the global community," said Hernandez, Black Dragon's managing director and chief executive officer.
The 2018 Ripple of Hope Award celebrates leaders in the areas of international business, public service, entertainment and social activism for advancing human rights. The winners are Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States, Bruce D. Broussard, president and CEO of Humana, Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey, and David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery.
The awards, which come in the year of the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's death, will be presented Dec. 12 during the annual Ripple of Hope Gala at the New York Hilton Midtown. Hernandez will attend the Ripple of Hope Gala with his wife, Sarah.
Kennedy made human rights a priority during his time in public office as a U.S. attorney general, New York senator and as a Democratic presidential candidate. He was shot on June 5, 1968, after winning the California Democratic primary.
"I grew up in California, where the shadow of Robert F. Kennedy's death hung visibly to me as an impressionable child. My parents forged in me and my sisters the importance of sacrifice and service and to value every human life, no matter the origin. We make the same effort at Black Dragon Capital together with our foundation, A Little Hope Foundation, and appreciate the guidance set forth by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization," Hernandez said.
Past winners of the Ripple of Hope Award include former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, former New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, Tim Cook, actor George Clooney, singer Taylor Swift and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
