WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BJ's Wholesale Club and Mastercard® today donated more than $120,000 to Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C), an organization that seeks to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.
"BJ's is proud to work with Mastercard and our members to support Stand Up To Cancer," said Brian Poulliot, executive vice president, Chief Membership Officer of BJ's Wholesale Club. "We're grateful for our members' generosity. BJ's has a long-term commitment to making a positive difference in our communities, and we're honored to be a part of SU2C's mission to engage the public in supporting cancer research and increase awareness of cancer prevention."
During the month of September, BJ's and Mastercard invited BJ's members to donate in-Club to support SU2C. Mastercard matched donations made on a Mastercard credit card. Additionally, BJ's made a donation to SU2C for every My BJ's Perks® Mastercard application received from September 17, 2017 to September 23, 2017.
"As a long-time supporter of Stand Up To Cancer, we know that collaboration can be a powerful tool in the fight against cancer," said Andres Siefken, executive vice president, North American marketing and communications, Mastercard. "That is why we joined together with BJ's, its members and our cardholders to make this donation and help further SU2C's mission of making everyone who is diagnosed with cancer a long-term survivor."
Founded in 2008, SU2C's mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers who compete against cancer, not against each other. To date, more than $481 million has been pledged to support SU2C's cancer research and over 1,200 scientists participate in SU2C-funded research.
"One in two men and one in three women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. That's why, at SU2C, we seek to advance a new, collaborative model of cancer research and get treatments to patients faster," said Sue Schwartz, co-founder, Stand Up To Cancer. "Because of our partnership with BJ's and Mastercard, SU2C can help save even more lives from this devastating disease."
