BISSELL Announces $50,000 Gift to the Petfinder.com Foundation
Contribution will fund a series of grants to support pet adoption across America
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- BISSELL Homecare, Inc., a longstanding supporter of pet adoption, announced its recent Like BISSELL, Love Pets online fundraising campaign reached its goal of raising $30,000 this summer. This brings the company's contribution to the Petfinder.com Foundation to a total of $50,000 this year. The $30,000 raised through the online campaign June 27-September 23 will be disbursed in a series of grants to help 10 Petfinder.com shelters and rescue groups in need of help, and will serve to arm pet parents with the knowledge and tools they need to care for their furry companions.
BISSELL's gift to the Petfinder.com Foundation was made possible by the more than 60,000 pet lovers across America who rallied around the importance of pet adoption and helped spread the word that pet clean-up shouldn't be a deterrent to adoption.
"BISSELL's research shows that many Americans don't have pets because of the messes they make – 38 percent say they'd add a pet to their home if clean-up was easier," said Rich Sorota, senior vice president and general manager of global marketing and sales for BISSELL. "We support adoption groups like the Petfinder.com Foundation because we ultimately want to see more homeless pets find their forever homes. It's our hope that grants like these will help educate more Americans about one of the major barriers to adoption – pet-clean-up."
Petfinder.com member shelters and rescue groups that will receive BISSELL grants this fall include the following:
- Braxton County Animal Shelter, Braxton, WV
- Upper Rio Grande Animal Society, Monte Vista, Calif.
- Humane Society of Jefferson County, Jefferson City, Tenn.
- Friends of the Animal Shelter in Hancock County, Waveland, Miss.
- Mendocino County Animal Care Services, Ukiah, Calif.
- Richardson Rescue, York, SC
- Rescue Group at Jackson County Animal Shelter, Cottageville, WV
- Humane Society for Campbell County, Rustburg, Va.
- Clark County Animal Shelter, Winchester, Ky.
- Pulaski County Animal Shelter, Pulaski, Ky.
"We're pleased to have had the opportunity to partner with BISSELL to help numerous animal shelters and rescue groups in 2011," said Liz Neuschatz, executive director for the Petfinder.com Foundation. "Through the years, BISSELL has been a great champion for pet adoption, and we admire the company's dedication to pet-related causes."
Earlier this year, BISSELL contributed $20,000 to help fund an animal shelter rehabilitation project in Eastern Kentucky led by Rescue University, a cooperative effort of the Petfinder.com Foundation and Animal Lifeline. Pet lovers can view the shelter renovation efforts documented on film by watching The Dog Files Episode 14: Rescue U.
In addition to partnerships with organizations like Petfinder.com, BISSELL supports the pet community through contributions to more than 100 U.S. pet charities, totaling over $200,000 annually. The company is committed to providing pet owners with effective, easy-to-use pet clean-up products.
