Bishop Robert Barron to lead the 6th Annual Grand Marian Procession to Celebrate Los Angeles' 235th Birthday
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, August 27, 2016, the Queen of Angels Foundation will host the 6th Annual Grand Marian Procession, Votive Mass, and Feast of the principal Patroness of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles – Our Lady of the Angels (Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles).
The public is invited to join the festivities on Saturday, August 27, 2016 starting with a Votive Mass at 3:00 p.m., at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, celebrated by Bishop Robert Barron, Auxiliary Bishop for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region; followed by the Grand Marian Procession at 4:15 p.m. to the Our Lady Queen of Angels Church "La Placita" in Olvera Street for a blessing at 5:15 p.m.
"It is an honor to be able to participate in this celebration of the history of the City of Los Angeles and the Catholic heritage that remains as important to all of us today as it was to our ancestors," said Bishop Barron, who will be the main celebrant of the Votive Mass.
"This is a great city and it is most appropriate that any celebration of the city take note of the important contribution of those Catholics who in many ways made Los Angeles what it is today. I'm very much looking forward to joining with the many faithful people who will come together to shine a light on the historical bonds between the city they love and their desire to serve God," added Bishop Barron.
"For the sixth year in a row the catholic community in Los Angeles is coming together to celebrate the city's birthday and pray for the protection of The Blessed Mother and the Queen of Angels," stated the event organizer, Los Angeles business litigation lawyer and founder of the Queen of Angels Foundation, Mark Anchor Albert, adding "It is a great honor to have Bishop Robert Barron join us this year for the procession."
Banners, flags, color guards and bagpipers will highlight the processional parade which starts at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and will end at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church "La Placita" with a blessing. Participants in the Procession include members of the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Peter Claver, the Order of Malta, the Order of St. Lazarus, the Order of St. Gregory, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher – together with a multitude of Catholic faithful, and members of several religious orders.
