Bipartisan Policy Center to Hold Breakfast Discussion on U.S.-Russian Relations: Putin's Return, The Political and Commercial Implications for America

WASHINGTON, March 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center's (BPC) Foreign Policy Project will hold a timely forum on U.S. Relations with Russia on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 8:30am – 10:00am. As Vladimir Putin returns to power and the country takes a seat at the World Trade Organization (WTO), bilateral ties remain strained despite efforts to "reset" the relationship. Relations with Russia are central to U.S. strategic interests. BPC believes future U.S. policy towards Russia should aim to advance common goals and work to resolve the issues that divide the two countries. With Russia entry into the WTO, the U.S. will be at a political and commercial disadvantage unless it graduates Russia from the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which would grant Russia permanent normal trade relations status. During the forum, the project will discuss its recent paper on the subject.
