Bipartisan Policy Center Launches New Citizens for Political Reform Effort Led by former Sen. Olympia Snowe and Sec. Dan Glickman
WASHINGTON, May 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Citizens for Political Reform effort. The effort, which is led by BPC Senior Fellows former Senator Olympia Snowe and former Secretary Dan Glickman, aims to connect with American citizens to find real solutions to help shape policy recommendations and support leaders who show the courage and the independence to work across the aisle to address the nation's challenges. The new effort is part of BPC's Commission on Political Reform.
"We need to place a premium on bipartisanship and compel people to come together," said Senator Snowe. "I'm optimistic that the Bipartisan Policy Center's new Citizens for Political Reform effort will give those who want to make a difference an outlet to improve our political system. Our work will demonstrate that partisans can work together without compromising principles."
"Everyone is frustrated by the polarization and gridlock in Washington. We've got to change the incentives to support the leaders who are willing to make the tough choices and do what is right for America," said Secretary Glickman. "We are mobilizing a group of citizens who are informed, opinionated Americans and are committed to understanding and fixing the partisan divide."
The Citizens for Political Reform effort has five working areas: Bipartisan Champions, a series that will highlight current lawmakers who are working across the aisle; 50 State Solutions to highlight local and state leaders; the Common Ground Project that will convene real-time conversations on where lawmakers can find agreement; We Can Fix It, an opportunity to find the best and brightest solutions by soliciting weekly questions; and Express Yourself, a series of social media contests that promote bipartisanship. Senator Olympia Snowe will be talking about the effort as well as her book, "Fighting for Common Ground," that was released earlier this week. Below is a schedule of the upcoming media appearances.
The Commission on Political Reform is convening its second in a series of National Conversations on American Unity at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on July 23.
