Bipartisan Policy Center Housing Commission to Hold Regional Public Forums in Texas, Idaho and Ohio in August
Discussions will Highlight Ways to Reform U.S. Housing Policy

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This month, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) Housing Commission will host three regional forums in Dallas, TX, Sun Valley, ID and Columbus, OH to discuss the most pressing housing issues facing our nation. U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan and members of Congress, as well as leading housing experts, will join members of the BPC Housing Commission to discuss the state of the housing market, current market trends, affordable rental housing, rural housing, and reform of our nation's housing finance system. Each forum will highlight the local and national impact of the commission's report, Housing America's Future: New Directions for National Policy.

Featuring keynote remarks by Congressman Jeb Hensarling, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee. Former U.S. Senator and Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Mel Martinez and former HUD Secretary Henry G. Cisneros – both Housing Commission co-chairs - will provide remarks. Panel discussions will focus on homeownership and the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, housing finance reform and expanding the affordable housing supply with the low-income housing tax credit.

Featuring keynote remarks by Senator Mike Crapo, Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. Former U.S. Senator Kit Bond and former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros – both Housing Commission co-chairs – will also provide remarks. A special presentation with HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and former HUD Secretary Cisneros will be moderated by former U.S. Representative Rick Lazio. Other panel discussions will focus on housing finance reform, the future of FHA, innovation in rural housing and the role of small banks and community lenders.
