BiopharmX Announces Breast Health Medical Advisory Board
Expertise from Leaders in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, and Family Practice to Advise in Areas of Women's Breast Health
MENLO PARK, Calif., Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BioPharmX Corporation (OTCQB: BPMX) today announced the formation of a Breast Health Medical Advisory Board (MAB) composed of highly respected physicians selected to provide a depth and range of experience in breast health. Members will serve as a strategic resource to BioPharmX as it develops products that address unmet breast health needs. Specifically, the advisory board will provide clinical trial and protocol design advice and guidance regarding emerging breast health trends and new product opportunities.

Lee P. Shulman, MD – Chair
Lee P. Shulman, MD is the Anna Ross Lapham Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Clinical Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shulman is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Medical Genetics, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Founding Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at the College of Pharmacy of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Shulman received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University Medical College.
Joseph Hunstad, MD
Dr. Joseph Hunstad was named Best Plastic Surgeon in America by Castle Connolly. He has published over 40 plastic surgery articles and most recently completed his first full textbook, Atlas of Abdominoplasty. He has lectured and performed surgery in 22 countries and trains other medical doctors through fellowship and direct observation programs. Most notably, Dr. Hunstad is credited with inventing "The Hunstad System," a widely used technique for tumescent anesthesia. Dr. Hunstad is a member of American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and Fellow American College of Surgeons (FACS). He currently serves as the Section Head of Plastic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center-University and is also affiliated with Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University and completed a General Surgery residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Scott Karlan, MD
Dr. Scott Karlan is Director of Physician Education at the Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center - A Project of Women's Guild at Cedars-Sinai where he also joined the academic faculty as a surgical oncologist in the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is a member of the National Ultrasound Faculty for the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Breast Ultrasound Certification Committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is also a former president of the Los Angeles County Medical Association and has chaired the Los Angeles Delegation to the California Medical Association. Dr. Karlan received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He then enrolled in the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Engineering at the same time. He returned to Harvard to complete his medical studies and completed his residency in general surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Patricia Sulak, MD
Dr. Patricia Sulak is the Dudley P. Baker Endowed Professor of Research and Education in OB/GYN at Texas A&M College of Medicine / Scott & White Healthcare. She is also Medical Director of the Division of Departmental Research. Dr. Sulak is a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has served on numerous American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) committees and has published over 100 articles. She continues to be included in "Best Doctors in America" and "Texas Super Docs." Dr. Sulak graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Medical School and was named its 2006 Distinguished Alumnus.
Lorraine Tafra, MD
Dr. Lorraine Tafra is the founding and current Director of The Breast Center at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. She serves on numerous committees for a variety of national surgical organizations including the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Breast Surgeons, National Approvals Program for Breast Centers, National Consortium of Breast Centers, National Quality Forum, and Surgical Quality Alliance. Dr. Tafra is a past-president of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the largest and oldest society dedicated to breast surgery. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers and is active in research with collaborations at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, East Carolina University and Johns Hopkins University Medical Center, where she also holds an academic appointment in surgery. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Case Western Reserve University and completed residency training in General Surgery at Brown University and Thomas Jefferson University.
Shawna Willey, MD
Dr. Shawna Willey is a Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Vice-Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Surgery Department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and Director of MedStar's Regional Breast Health Program. Prior to assuming her current positions, she served as the Director of the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Past-President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. As an active researcher in the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Willey is the principal investigator on many clinical trials with a focus on outcomes and quality of life. Dr. Willey conceptualized and served as Co-Director of the highly successful Breast Coordinated Care Conference (BC3) and is co-editor of the two-volume textbook, Surgery of the Breast, Principles and Art. As an internationally recognized breast surgeon, she has conducted educational programs and participated in medical missions throughout the world. She has received multiple awards, including those from the African Women's Cancer Association and the Living in Pink Foundation as well as consistent recognition as America's Top Doctors and America's Top Doctors for Cancer. Dr. Willey received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa and completed her residency in surgery at the George Washington University Medical Center.
