Billtrust Steps Up For World's Largest Corporate Health Challenge
HAMILTON, N.J., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Billtrust, the leader in Customer Centric Billing, today announced that its employees have kicked off their first participation in the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC), the world's largest corporate wellness initiative. On May 23, 70 Billtrust employees joined a 265,000-strong legion of fellow workers worldwide in GCC, a workplace health program designed to reverse the sedentary lifestyle habits afflicting the full-time workforce and to return sustained health and resilience to the workplace.
With today's average worker taking just 3,000 steps per day – a significant shortfall from the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommended 10,000 steps – it's hardly surprising that chronic conditions such as obesity, type II diabetes, heart disease, stroke, depression and some cancers are on the rise, taking their toll on employees and their workplaces across the country – and the world. It's an issue that Billtrust has refused to take sitting down.
"We know that investing in the long-term wellbeing of our employees will deliver Billtrust a more engaged and resilient workforce, one better equipped to face daily challenges and positively contribute to the business now and into the future," stated Jeanne O'Connor, Billtrust HR Director. "The Global Corporate Challenge provides an effective and engaging platform to achieve this. It empowers our staff to work towards a united purpose and to adopt the lifestyle habits that will safeguard their wellbeing and workplace performance capacity over the long term."
Over the next 16 weeks, Billtrust employees will team up and support each other in shaking up their sedentary ways and increasing their daily levels of incremental activity and exercise to meet Challenge milestones. In addition to making health and lifestyle improvements, Billtrust employees will move towards improved workplace and engagement by participating in the GCC's virtual, step-for-step world trek, in a friendly competition with hundreds of thousands of peers the world over.
Billtrust plans to help improve the health of not only its own employees, but also the greater global community. Each Billtrust employee participating in the GCC will have the opportunity to make a voluntary donation and a meaningful difference to some of the world's most impoverished communities. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the GCC and provided to UNICEF to fund the purchase of water pumps for installation into communities with little or no access to safe, clean water.
"The GCC's partnership with UNICEF affords us an opportunity to build on our existing corporate social responsibility commitment and make a valuable and direct contribution to the very children and their families who need our help the most. Community outreach activity is something which resonates strongly with our employees, and positively boosts workplace pride and morale," said O'Connor.
Billtrust will join 1,300 organizations world-wide in stepping up for this 10th edition of GCC.
"We're very excited to join so many companies in this vast and valuable initiative. Already, increased camaraderie and the spirit of friendly competition have positively impacted our workplace culture. We are all looking forward to stepping up and showing the world – and ourselves – just what we can do," O'Connor stated.
