Billionaire Koch Brothers Top Wealth-X List Of Wealthiest US Oil Tycoons
NEW YORK, May 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Koch brothers took the top two positions in a Wealth-X list of the wealthiest US oil tycoons released today.
David and Charles Koch, co-owners of America's largest privately-held conglomerates, are estimated to be worth US$47.9 billion and US$47.8 billion respectively. Their combined fortunes – which far outweigh the combined net worth of the eight other US oil tycoons in the Wealth-X ranking – rose by 14% between June 2014 and May 2015 through a portfolio of diversified business interests.
The list released today is an update of a Wealth-X list of the richest US oil tycoons released in January 2015. Kelcy Warren and Scott Duncan are new entrants on the top 10 list. Warren, chairman of Energy Transfer Partners, debuts at number seven with a fortune of US$7 billion. Duncan, one of the world's youngest billionaires, emerged in the 10th spot with a net worth of US$5.7 billion.
Harold Hamm, Oklahoma oil tycoon and CEO of Continental Resources, remained in the number three spot on the list despite having to pay a US$975 million divorce settlement and losses in the stock market in the past year that reduced his net worth by 36%. He is estimated to be worth US$11.8 billion.
