Bill Shapiro joins Getty Images as Editor and VP of Consumer Media
Veteran editor to put Getty Images in the hearts and minds of consumers
NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Getty Images, a world leader in visual communications, today announced that Bill Shapiro will join the company as Editor and VP of Consumer Media. Based in New York, Shapiro will be responsible for establishing Getty Images as a leading consumer image destination on the web, leveraging the company's 20-year legacy of stunning imagery, excellence in search engine optimization and best-in-class technology.
The appointment marks another step in support of the company's strategy to extend its core B2B licensing business and establish new opportunities within the consumer market. Shapiro will have editorial oversight of Getty Images' consumer platform, and will be responsible for delivering big-impact stories to the 97 per cent of visitors to gettyimages.com that come to admire, share and engage with the world's best imagery.

Shapiro joins from Fast Company magazine where he served as Director for Editorial and New Business Enterprises. Before that, Shapiro spent 18 years at Time Inc. where he had a diverse career including as the editor of LIFE magazine, and as the founding editor of LIFE.com. He has worked in senior editorial positions in the magazine business for twenty years, is a curator of fine-art photography and an established author.
