NEW YORK, Sept. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation announces that, for the sixth year in a row, they have been chosen as a beneficiary of Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund's annual Charity Day event, sponsored by Cantor Fitzgerald, BGC Partners and Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.
Cantor Fitzgerald and its affiliates hold Charity Day each year to commemorate the 658 co-workers who perished on 9/11 by donating their global revenues on that day to charities around the world. To date, the fund has donated more than $280 million dollars to charity. Celebrity ambassadors participate on behalf of charities, and bring energy and excitement to the trading floor. They speak with clients over the phone, and most, take part in real trades with financial institutions, guided by a broker. This year, Bill Ritter, ABC Anchor, will be acting as the Fisher Center's Charity Ambassador, aiming to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and the importance of continued research funding.
"We are grateful that the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund has selected the Fisher Center and Alzheimer's research as a cause worthy of its support," said Kent L. Karosen, President/CEO Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research at The Rockefeller University is one of the largest and most modern facilities in the world dedicated to solving the puzzle of Alzheimer's, and considered by many to be a pinnacle of Alzheimer's research. The Center is led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Paul Greengard, recipient of multiple awards and honors throughout his career, and includes a research team of world-renowned scientists.
"During this year's Charity Day, we are thrilled to partner with Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach, legendary Pat Summitt, and her foundation to raise research funds to support a common cause," said Karosen.
Every single day, almost 1,500 people in the U.S. develop Alzheimer's disease, and in 2015, it is expected that the treatment of Alzheimer's will cost more than $200 billion dollars in health services. In the next 30-40 years, the spiraling costs could threaten the very existence of the critical senior safety nets, Medicare and Medicaid, which presently cover more than one-half of these costs.
