Bikers Plan 'Scrabble Ride' to Support Cancer Center
3rd annual Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Motorcycle Run set for Oct. 22
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Patients receiving cancer treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare will benefit from the 3rd annual Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Motorcycle Run, a 198-mile scenic ride on Oct. 22.
Proceeds benefit the cancer center's Gift of Life Lodging Program, which offers courtesy lodging through Country Inns and Suites for eligible patients traveling to Scottsdale for treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2011, the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare attracts patients from throughout Arizona, the U.S. and beyond for its innovative cancer treatment and research.
The Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center is the first comprehensive cancer center in greater Phoenix to offer cancer treatment, research, prevention and support services in a single location in collaboration with top community oncologists and scientists from leading research institutions.
Ride organizers created a "Scrabble Run" for this year's event. Riders will receive Scrabble letters along the route, and the highest word value at the finish line will win a big screen plasma TV. Food, music and raffle prizes highlight the post-ride celebration. Raffle prizes include weekend stays at local resorts, restaurant gift certificates, laptop computers and more.
The Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Motorcycle Run begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 22 at Go AZ Motorcycles in Scottsdale and ends at San Tan Flats in Queen Creek.
Presented by Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, the ride honors the late Rob Moy, an avid biker and 14-year Scottsdale Healthcare employee who helped found the event before tragically losing his life.

9 a.m. ride starts / 1st Stop: Go AZ Motorcycles
2nd stop: Country Inn & Suites, 10801 N. 89th Place, Scottsdale, AZ 85260
3rd stop: Butcher Hook, HWY 188 Butcher Hook Rd., Tonto Basin, AZ 85553
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. lunch at Butcher Hook
4th stop: Los Hermanos Restaurant & Lounge, 835 W. US Highway 60, Superior 85273
5th stop and Ending Celebration: San Tan Flats, 6185 W. Hunt Hwy, Queen Creek AZ 85142
Last rider in 3:30 p.m.
