AMSTERDAM, Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading event organiser, UBM Live, today announced that its annual flagship pharmaceutical contract services event , ICSE Europe, (Villepinte, Paris Nord 5-7 October), along with co-located events CPhI Worldwide for pharmaceutical ingredients; P-MEC Europe for equipment, machinery and technology and BioPh Europe for biopharma, had attracted an increase in visitors of over 14%* above the 25,000 who attended the 2009 events in Madrid. ICSE Europe 2010 was also the largest in its 10 year history, 24% bigger than in 2009, and of the 363 exhibitors from 30 countries, 100 were new to the event.
ICSE 2010 saw the launch of a new, visitor-friendly zoned layout, making exhibitors easier to find, with more logical on-site navigation, leaving visitors with "more talking, less walking" time. The zones focused on two of the fastest growing areas within Pharmaceutical Outsourcing: "Clinical Trials and, Contract Research," and "Packaging." The Packaging Zone featured 50 new exhibitors, and such has been the growth within the Pharma packaging sector, that UBM Live has announced plans to hold a dedicated co-located packaging event in 2011 (Messe Frankfurt, Germany, 25-27 October). InnoPack will offer the Pharma community innovative and diverse packaging solutions to satisfy the changing ways in which medication is packaged and delivered; demand for space at the inaugural event has been so great that the original layout is already being reconfigured to accommodate more exhibitors.
"We have been overwhelmed both by the attendance at this year's events and by the response to the launch of InnoPack," commented UBM Live Brand Director, Haf Cennydd. "Continued growth in the Pharma Outsourcing sector, combined with returning confidence in the Pharma industry in general, have been major factors in both the high attendance and the growth of ICSE as an event. In addition to InnoPack, we will also be introducing a new zone to PMEC, LABWorld, which will feature laboratory, analytical and biotech equipment and will cater for the increasingly sophisticated new technologies in the pharma and biopharma laboratory space. We will continue to add innovative complementary events and content to run alongside ICSE, in order to ensure that our brands are relevant and informative for visitors, while providing maximum ROI for our exhibitors."
For the second year, the ICSE group of events offered a pre-show conference series the day before the show got underway. The series focused on "Global Sourcing and Contracting Strategies" with a multi-track format that offered 30-minute seminar modules on the following themes: API sourcing in India and China, market opportunities in biosimilars, CMO selection and relationship management, CRO partnership and risk management, new innovations in excipient sourcing and generics, super generics and post-patent outlook. This series saw a 45% increase in attendance over 2009 numbers.
The first ever Pharma Outsourcing Roundtable was also held this year and featured high-level representatives from major pharma, the legal profession, custom manufacturing, excipient producers, formulators and CROs. Designed to produce lively debate around current sourcing issues from a wide range of industry perspectives, topics included the re-making of R&D processes, streamlining manufacturing networks, and exploiting the untapped opportunities offered by the growing economies in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Launched in 2000, ICSE Europe has grown to become the must attend meeting place for the global pharma outsourcing community, and exhibitor levels have increased dramatically since its inception from 14 to 363, reflecting the growth and importance of the pharma contract services sector.
The annual schedule of global ICSE events also includes ICSE India (Mumbai, 1-3 December 2010), ICSE Japan (Tokyo, 18-20 April 2011), ICSE China (Shanghai, 21-23 June 2011) and ICSE South America (Sao Paolo, Brazil, 24-26 August 2011).
