Big Fish Celebrates 2 Billion Downloads and Its 10th Consecutive Year of Record Growth
SEATTLE, March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Big Fish, the world's largest producer of casual games, announced today the distribution of more than two billion casual games to PC and mobile devices around the world since the company was founded in 2002. This milestone underscores the company's continued focus on multi-platform, global growth. Fiscal 2012 was the 10th consecutive record year for Big Fish, with more than $220 million in bookings. The largest contributor of growth came from an expansion in their mobile and free-to-play businesses.
Big Fish continues to entertain consumers with expanding genre selection on more devices, and a variety of purchase options and delivery modes. The company's games are downloaded more than 1 million times per day, and are accessible to consumers across multiple platforms, including PC, Mac, smartphones, and tablets. The company's new interactive cloud gaming service "Big Fish Unlimited" is currently adding a new game every day to PCs and Android tablets and will be coming soon to internet-connected TV's, Windows 8 devices and the Wikipad.
"2012 was a successful year of transition for Big Fish," said Paul Thelen, Big Fish Founder and CEO. "We achieved nearly 20% top line bookings growth last year and anticipate our growth rate to accelerate throughout 2013 and 2014, largely due to our new lines of business that are now at a meaningful scale. Mobile is our fastest growing platform and now accounts for 30% of total company bookings. A year ago we transitioned from a premium 'games you own' business model to providing more choices to our customers on how and where they want to play. More than half of our mobile bookings now come from a free-to-play business model," said Paul Thelen, Big Fish's founder and CEO.
The company's growth in bookings stems from its deeply engaged global audience that relies on Big Fish to deliver high quality casual game content. Critically-acclaimed and original games such as "Fairway Solitaire" and the newly released adventure "Fetch" were created by Big Fish's internal studios. Those studios plus 140 exclusive developer partnerships around the world enable Big Fish to provide compelling game content that can't be found or played anywhere else.
"Customers continue to respond to our ever growing catalog of high-quality games and platform flexibility," said Dave Stephenson, President and CFO of Big Fish. "Virtually every one of our 3000+ PC and Mac games made money in 2012, and our consumer base continues to expand as they increasingly turn to us for great games to play on their iPhones, iPads, Kindles and Android tablets and phones."
