Children's Hunger Fund opens new Global Distribution Center, celebrates 20 years, and prepares for annual Toy Wrap
SYLMAR, Calif., Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- There is nothing more rewarding than helping poor children, except for maybe helping millions of poor children for twenty years over. Today, L.A.-based charity Children's Hunger Fund (CHF) celebrated their 20th anniversary and stepped into the future, opening the doors of their new Global Distribution Center in Sylmar.

With the snip of a large pair of scissors, Dave Phillips, President of Children's Hunger Fund cut a red ribbon symbolizing the beginning of the important future work to happen in the new 66,000 square-foot facility. Local government representatives, including L.A. city Councilman Richard Alarcon, joined the celebration. Board members, volunteers, and friends enjoyed tours and a sneak peek at The Poverty Encounter, an immersive learning experience.
"This is a special milestone for CHF," said Phillips. "We are honored to share it with friends like you, our faithful volunteers and supporters, who share our heart of compassion toward suffering children."
The ribbon cutting is just the beginning. On Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m., CHF will host 2,300 volunteers in the new building as they wrap more than 75,000 toys generously donated by Ty Inc. Together with their regional distribution centers in Texas and Illinois, CHF expects to wrap a total of 150,000 toys for children nationwide; gifts which will put smiles on the faces of needy children who would otherwise get nothing for Christmas.
"This year's Toy Wrap is twice as exciting for CHF," said Phillips. "Not only are we giving hope to children, but we are doing it from our new home."
