Big Data and Smart Technologies are Security Industry's Top Priorities
LONDON, November 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Sharing data securely and integrating smart technologies with legacy systems across multiple agencies form the central themes to IFSEC Global.com's latest security industry trend report.
Safe Cities: The Industry View, canvassed the views of CEOs, CIOs, sales directors, government officials and other industry stakeholders on the subject of urban security in the information age.

Forty-four percent of people involved in the security sector think that 'safe cities' projects should be the industry's foremost priority, the survey revealed. And a majority of respondents - 90% - consider safe cities to be at the very least an "important industry issue".
Ranging from manufacturers and consultants to integrators and facilities managers, more than half (52%) of respondents said they expected to be involved in a 'safe cities' project over the next 18 months. But although 72% saw such projects as an opportunity for their business, 43% professed to have only a low level of expertise in the area.
With everything from trains to buildings increasingly interpreting the environment via cameras and sensors, "safe cities" - which lent its name to an entire dedicated zone at IFSEC & OSH Arabia (2 - 4 November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) - is fundamentally about how government and the security industry harness IP-based technologies to improve urban security.
IFSEC and FIREX event director Gerry Dunphy said: "Our safe cities report reveals an industry that recognises the importance of using IP-based technologies to adopt a holistic, data-driven approach to urban security.
"It also revealed an industry keen to acquire the knowledge necessary to meet the challenges such approaches pose - such as integrating IP and analogue technologies, fostering inter-agency communication and keeping data secure in an IP-based environment.
"This more than vindicates our decision to ensure the 'safe cities' concept is an integral part of every IFSEC event around the world."
