Big City, Big Software: City of Houston Selects Aurigo Masterworks in a Comprehensive Multi-Year Deal to Implement Cloud-based Capital Planning and Project Management Controls Software for $6.91 Billion Program
AUSTIN, Texas and HOUSTON, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Houston is the poster child for the phrase, "Everything's bigger in Texas." Indisputably the juggernaut of oil and natural gas, biomedical research and aeronautics industries and home to NASA, the Bayou City's population of 2.3 million makes it the largest city in the southern US, and fourth-largest city in the nation.
Houstonians don't fool around when it comes to their property, either. That's why, when the City of Houston needed a Design and Construction Project Management System, it called in the big guns by signing a multi-year deal with America's leading capital program and project portfolio management solution vendor, Aurigo Software Inc. Aurigo received the highest overall rating and was deemed the best qualified to meet the requirements of the RFP that included the ability to deliver a fully integrated product, responsiveness, technical competence, product demonstration, financial strength and stability. Aurigo was selected over e-Builder, Oracle Unifier, and PM Web.
City of Houston General Services Department (GSD), is the city's in-house developer that provides a full range of services including project, property, energy, environmental and security management on behalf of other city departments. The City's GSD was looking for an integrated cloud-based system to handle project management and planning for capital construction projects.
The City of Houston's $6.91 billion, five-year Capital Improvement Program includes all vertical construction and parks: fire and police stations, multiservice centers, libraries, municipal courts, public works facilities, and solid waste facilities, plus facility restorations and renovations that in total represent 7.7 million square feet of occupied space.
In seeking out a software solution, the City required a cloud-based commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) capital project management software solution that could integrate within its existing environment including Kronos employee time tracking and SAP ERP accounting systems. The Aurigo Masterworks Planning, Project Management and Bidding and Estimation modules will allow the City to manage schedules, costs, all procurements and vendor contact information.
Aurigo Masterworks will also provide the City the ability to manage all the documents associated with their Capital Program, automate their business process and allow for real time reporting. Aurigo will partner with Access Data Supply Inc., a minority, woman-owned, Houston-based firm to deliver services.
"Given the City's history of innovation, it's no surprise that City of Houston has chosen the world's most innovative and comprehensive capital program and project portfolio management system to manage its large infrastructure projects. We are excited to implement Aurigo Masterworks to bring advanced project controls to Houston, to increase the efficiency of its capital programs," said Balaji Sreenivasan, CEO of Aurigo Software Inc.
Aurigo Software has emerged as the preferred solution provider within the public sector transportation industry in both US and Canada. Tight budgets and booming populations have caused agencies such as the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario, Colorado, Oregon, Wisconsin and Utah departments of transportation, and various cities, counties, ports, and water authorities to turn to Aurigo Masterworks to automate their capital programs.
