Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles Launches 100 New Mentors Campaign
Non-Profit Agency Actively Recruiting During National Mentor Month
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) is launching its first annual "100 New Mentors in 100 Days Campaign" in an effort to close the gap between children in need of mentors and available volunteers. In honor of January's National Mentor Month, BBBSLA is actively recruiting positive adult role models to serve as Big Brothers and Big Sisters to children between 6-18 years old.
"Our need is great, we currently have nearly 300 children throughout Los Angeles County on our waiting list for Big Brother and Big Sister mentors," stated Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles Mentor Recruiter Spencer Brooks. "Most of the children on our match waiting list are boys or children from Spanish and Monolingual speaking families who sometimes remain on our waiting list for more than a year."
The "100 New Mentors in 100 Days Campaign" runs from January 16th through April 30th, 2013 and will feature a variety of community outreach activities, agency organized special events and personalized informational presentations for companies, organizations and special interest groups that support mentoring. Potential mentors are encouraged to attend the "BIGS LA 2013 Networking & Info Session" Wednesday, January 30th from 7:00pm - 8:45pm at LA Plaza De Cultura Y Artes, 501 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
