Big Bang Theory Star Mayim Bialik Graces Cover of EDGE Magazine's 2015 'Parental Guidance' Issue
ELIZABETH, N.J., Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Making a smash-hit sitcom may not be brain surgery, but as actress Mayim Bialik explains during her cover interview in the current issue of EDGE, the creativity and talent that goes into producing each episode of The Big Bang Theory is definitely comparable.
"Every single thing that you see, that you love, is an expression of our writers," says Bialik, who plays scientist Amy Farrah Fowler. "They're really, really talented people…a lot more like a group of intellectuals or academics rather than a group of writers."
Bialik is something of an authority on the subject of the human brain. After starring in the NBC series Blossom, she entered academia and earned a PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA. What she likes best about the brilliant, misfit character on Big Bang is the message the show sends: "There's someone for everyone."
The Parental Guidance has something for everyone. Todd Bowles, an Elizabeth native and new head coach of the Jets, talks about the influence of his mom on his football career, and explains how an NFL team is like a family.
For parents wondering if they've purchased appropriate toys for their children, "How Are We Not Dead?" revisits the most beloved (and incredibly dangerous) toys of the 1960s and 1970s.
The magazine's Healthy Edge section looks at the crazy things kids swallow, through the eyes of Trinitas Regional Medical Center's Emergency Medicine Chairman, Dr. John D'Angelo. The section also includes TRMC's successful THRIVE program, which has been promoting renal health for two decades. For children of elderly parents, "Fear Factor" explains the challenges that Alzheimer's drug trials face.
The EDGE Family section features two articles written from very personal perspectives. "A School for Little Man" chronicles the journey of a family with a gifted and learning-disabled child, while "Lost In Video Space" discusses the emerging crisis of video gaming addiction.
Finally, EDGE spends "5 Minutes with Ray Liotta," who looks back on his childhood in nearby Union. The legendary tough guy admits that, unlike his pals, he spent surprisingly little time in Manhattan as a teenager. "New York scared me…It just wasn't my cup of tea."
