Big Band Monday Brings the Swing-Era Back to the Flatiron District
The Glenn Crytzer Orchestra and Slate NY present vintage big band music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, every Monday in New York City.
NEW YORK, Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the 1930s you couldn't walk down the street in Manhattan without hearing the music of a live big band wafting through the air from some distant ballroom or supper club. This fall The Glenn Crytzer Orchestra and Slate Restaurant and Bar are teaming up to revive a piece of New York's musical history with "Big Band Mondays."

Each week Crytzer's tuxedo-clad big band will perform the music of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s from artists like Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, and Glenn Miller as well as the gems of lesser known bands. The Crytzer Orchestra is comprised of many of NYC's all-star young musicians seen at events like the Jazz Age Lawn Party, the New York Hot Jazz Festival, and Midsummer Night Swing, and Crytzer's arrangements and recordings have been used in numerous vintage-themed projects including ABC's Agent Carter, CBC's Bomb Girls, WGN's Manhattan and Blumhouse's new swing-dance documentary Alive and Kicking.
Crytzer's first Big Band Monday, which took place at the Fillmore Room on 10th Ave., was cut short by a tragic venue fire. The event's new home, Slate, will play host in their 8,000 sq. ft. downstairs space complete with a large dance floor for those who wish to cut a rug. Patrons may opt for table service, perfect for a unique dinner-and-a-show date or group outing, while the bar area offers a low pressure atmosphere for singles. Cocktail attire recommended but not required.
