WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bob Bowlsby, commissioner of the Big 12 Conference, will speak at a National Press Club speakers luncheon Monday, Sept. 21. Mr. Bowlsby will discuss whether substantive change is possible in the current environment of college athletics.
The Big 12, headquartered in Dallas, is an organization of 10 Division I universities spanning a wide-swath of the United States from Lubbock, Texas, to Morgantown, W. Va. The Big 12, which sponsors 23 sports in men's and women's fields, celebrates its 20th year during 2015-16.
The Big 12 conducts postseason championships for 20 of its 23 sports. Each championship helps to determine teams and/or individuals that will represent the conference in national postseason competition. Through its first 19 years, the Big 12 has claimed a team national championship in 17 of the sports it sponsors. The conference finished the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) era ranked tied for second with seven appearances in the National Championship game.
