BIC Celebrates 60th Anniversary In U.S. By Honoring Employees And Community Partners
Company recognizes milestone by allocating $60,000 of a $100,000 donation to fund 127 teacher classroom dreams through DonorsChoose.org
SHELTON, Conn., Dec. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BIC, a world leader in stationery products, lighters and shavers, celebrated the company's 60th anniversary in the U.S. by thanking its customers, community partners and team members. Today, BIC continues its legacy of providing simple solutions to everyday needs, giving back to its local communities and improving learning conditions for all students.
Honoring this milestone, BIC USA awarded $60,000 to fund 127 classroom projects through DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit organization that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests. The donation, which is part of BIC's commitment of $100,000 to the organization in 2018, will fund all handwriting projects in 14 states, including those where BIC has facilities or offices - Connecticut, North Carolina, South Carolina, Minnesota and Arkansas. "Sixty years ago, my grandfather Marcel brought BIC to the U.S. with a vision of offering safe, high-quality, and reliable choices for everyone, everywhere," said Gonzalve Bich, Chief Executive Officer. "BIC's success is also due to the dedicated, hard-working and generous team members who have joined the BIC family, and the many worthy community partners that share our commitment to education and sustainable development. Together, we are making the world a better, safer and more promising place for future generations."
Today, BIC USA has more than 750 employees in 21 states. In addition to its North American headquarters in Shelton, Conn., the company also has a lighter plant in Milford, Conn. which produces more than 1.2 million lighters every day, packaging and distribution centers in Charlotte, a stationery manufacturing facility in Gaffney, N.C., and offices in Bentonville, Ark. and Minneapolis.
"I'm proud to be a part of the BIC family for more than 30 years. Our work in schools, volunteering with Special Olympics Connecticut, and the contributions that we make to organizations like the United Way and The Connecticut Food Bank, shows us that our support impacts so many within the community," said Nora Espinel, Accounts Payable Supervisor and Systems Administrator for BIC Corporation.
In 2017, BIC USA and its team members contributed nearly $622,000 through monetary and in-kind product donations to deserving organizations.
