Bibb Medical Center Selects ChartAccess EMR From Prognosis Health Information Systems
Rural hospital aims to improve quality and meet government's meaningful use requirements
HOUSTON, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Bibb County Healthcare Authority System is adding an electronic medical records system from Prognosis Health Information Systems to its automation line-up.
The Centreville, Ala.-based 166-bed system, which is made up of inpatient, long-term care, medical clinics and continuing care retirement communities, already utilizes financial management software from Custom Software Systems (CSS), Nashville. The two companies work in tandem to holistically address healthcare organizations' information technology needs.
"Prognosis offered us the advanced clinical functionality that we were looking for in an electronic records system. The fact that they are a partner with CSS also really appealed to us," says Joseph Marchant, COO at Bibb. "With Prognosis, we can continue to use the financial systems that we have in place and we know that we are adding a clinical system from a company that truly specializes in electronic records. So, we can't lose. We are getting a really strong system and our clinicians can concentrate on implementing it without having to worry about learning other new systems at the same time."
Designed by clinicians, ChartAccess® Comprehensive EMR also provides the user-friendly features that will help Bibb Medical Center quickly reap the benefits of technology. With screens that look like e-mail interfaces, the system is easy and intuitive to use, even for medical staff with limited computer experience.
Prognosis also is working with Bibb to customize the system to meet the facilities' unique clinical and workflow needs, further enhancing the system's ease of adoption. As a result, the hospital is planning to implement the system in just three months and to quickly move toward meeting meaningful use requirements and qualifying for incentive funds emanating from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
In addition, ChartAccess will help the facilities improve overall quality of care and attract and retain physicians.
"Physicians coming out of residency expect to have electronic records. They want to practice medicine in an automated environment," Marchant says.
Bibb is the latest in a series of several providers that recently have chosen ChartAccess to support clinical quality and operational process improvement efforts and to move toward meeting the government's meaningful use requirements.
"At Prognosis, we are keenly focused on providing an electronic records system that can help healthcare organizations elevate their clinical care efforts and, as such, providers can leverage our technology to quickly march toward the fulfillment of ARRA requirements. Hospitals from across the country are realizing the value that we can bring to their efforts," says Ramsey Evans, CEO of Prognosis.
