BOSTON, Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Brian Alves, a graduate of Bunker Hill Community College, was selected to participate in the Classroom to Boardroom Diversity Mentorship Program designed by the U.S. Green Building Council (U.S.G.B.C). Alves graduated from BHCC in June 2011, with an Associate in Arts degree in Business Administration. During his time at BHCC, he was very active in college sustainability activities and co-founded the campus Sustainability Club. Alves is now enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he is studying business and finance.
Alves is one of just 16 undergraduate students selected from a pool of 50 applicants from colleges and universities throughout the United States. He is the only student chosen from a community college in Massachusetts. "This internship is a wonderful opportunity for me to merge my passion for sustainability with my career interests in business," said Alves.
The Diversity Mentorship Program supports students from diverse backgrounds in pursuing studies and careers in fields related to sustainability. U.S.G.B.C. board members offer students accepted into the program professional advice, networking opportunities and career building experiences. Alves has been paired with Nathan Gauthier, Energy Manager for the Philips North American account at Jones Lang Lasalle, a global real estate services firm based in Massachusetts.
"I enjoy the opportunity to work with Brian as he builds upon his great experience at Bunker Hill Community College," said Gauthier. "I am both inspired by Brian's ambitions and am learning a lot from him during this journey. We all benefit from having Brian Alves as a champion for sustainable development," he added.
