BeyondCore delivers 9,600 times faster Data Analytics for Intermountain Healthcare
20-Minute Analysis Would Have Taken 40 Analysts Two Weeks Manually
SAN MATEO, Calif., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Analytics innovator BeyondCore today announced that its one-click analytics platform shortened an analysis that would have traditionally required 400 analyst-days to just 20 minutes for Intermountain Healthcare, a not-for-profit health system based in Salt Lake City, Utah. This 9,600 times faster analysis is yet another demonstration of BeyondCore's ability to automatically and accurately analyze vast quantities of data with a single click.
THE OPPORTUNITY – TIME TO INSIGHT AND INCREASED ANALYTIC CAPACITY
Intermountain has hundreds of analysts, and sees an opportunity to help them achieve insights faster, with less wasted time researching low value hypotheses. BeyondCore has capabilities that promise to augment these analysts' time by surfacing high value correlations much faster than Intermountain's current tools and approach.
THE SOLUTION – IN TWENTY MINUTES
In 20 minutes, BeyondCore analyzed 700,000 records, 100 data attributes, and processed 92,000 variable combinations:
- What would have taken months of scarce resources took just minutes: BeyondCore automatically evaluated thousands of variable combinations and calculated key statistical metrics for each combination.
- Cross-team collaboration prevented flawed analysis: Because of how BeyondCore makes analysis results comprehensible by business users, the analysts were able to share the analysis report with the clinicians within minutes of starting the analysis. The clinicians were able to understand the initial analysis and provide immediate specific feedback on how to improve the analysis further. They were also able to suggest new analyses worth pursuing. The team was able to make adjustments to their analysis based on this feedback and close the loop by showing the updated analysis to the clinicians in minutes.
Without BeyondCore, the analysis would have involved the clinicians much later in the process. If the clinicians noted the same improvement opportunities after months of analysis had been done, much of the analytic effort would have been wasted. It is also possible that if they had only looked at the final report without having direct information on the nature of the input variables, they would not have noticed the problems in the analysis. This would have led to fundamentally flawed analysis. BeyondCore helped prevent incorrect analyses or potentially months of wasted efforts. - Immediately detected flaws in the data: In minutes, BeyondCore helped detect patterns like duplicate records and major outliers. In traditional analysis you try and clean up the data before analysis, but no one has access to truly clean data. BeyondCore made it easy to see the precise parts of the data Intermountain needed to focus their data cleansing efforts on, helping Intermountain to clean up their data effectively.
- Consistent analytical approaches: Intermountain is testing BeyondCore for clinical analysis, operational analysis, and HR analysis. Traditionally, very different tools and techniques would be used by such disparate groups. The BeyondCore solution is able to deliver on the unique needs of all these groups without any configuration or customization. BeyondCore also stores the settings of each analysis so that the precise nature of each analysis can be tracked centrally in a consistent way. Using a single solution for such wide-ranging analytical needs will facilitate the sharing of best practices and resources across Intermountain.
- Privacy built right in: BeyondCore complies with HIPAA out of the box, and is willing to sign business associate agreements. More importantly, it implements a method called K-anonymity that is used in federal programs like the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). BeyondCore automatically enforces K-anonymity so that no private data can be accidently revealed when reports are shared with other parties.
- Immediate impact: BeyondCore was so easy to use, that Intermountain was able to use BeyondCore to analyze multiple sets of real data on day one.
"BeyondCore processed a particular test data set, completing 92,000 correlations in about 20 minutes. It would have taken a team of 40 analysts two weeks to do this manually. This speeds time-to-results, enabling analysts to focus on analyzing higher-value results rather than the underlying data processing tasks required to get to those results." – Mike Harmer, Director, HR Analytics and Technology at Intermountain Healthcare.
"If we want to succeed in addressing new rapidly spreading diseases, the analysis has to happen in minutes, enable seamless collaboration between all stakeholders, produce results despite data quality issues and avoid human bias or pre-conceived notions. The Intermountain case demonstrates exactly this approach in the context of a much less urgent problem." – Arijit Sengupta, CEO at BeyondCore.
BeyondCore offers the only analytics platform that automatically creates an animated story of what happened and why, while explaining how you can predict and impact what will happen next – all with a single click. The newest version of its software—BeyondCore V Beta—highlights key findings, recommends additional analyses to consider, predicts what-if scenarios and outcomes and guides users to specific actions that will directly impact their bottom line.
