Beyond Algorithms, Storage Technology, Metadata and Retrieval: Why Human Curators Create All the Value in Modern Media Archiving
LAC Group's Tyler Leshney to Present "The Curation Ecosystem" at AMIA's Digital Asset Symposium
LOS ANGELES, May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LAC Group's Tyler Leshney will present "The Curation Ecosystem" at the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Digital Asset Symposium today.
His presentation will focus on the future of information curation in an era of exponential growth in media assets and why value creation in an age of exponential growth of digital film assets and why human curators are necessary to create value.
"Digital archives—especially in moving images where there's seemingly no limit to the number of options for creation and distribution—is one of those unique markets where value isn't driven by a traditional scarcity model. In fact, it's just the opposite," Mr. Leshney said.
"Value is often determined by volume of data. But the rub is that in order to extract the any value whatsoever, it takes modern, human curators to mine it and perhaps even more importantly, choose to get rid of it," Leshney added.
From its inception in 2007, DAS (Digital Asset Symposium) has brought together speakers and case studies providing a unique opportunity to compare approaches from a wide variety of institutions dealing with the same digital challenges. DAS is an active forum for content creators, technologists, and caretakers to address the full lifecycle of a media asset—from production to rights management.
Mr. Leshney's presentation begins at 9:00 a.m. May 16, 2014 at the Linwood Dunn Theatre in Hollywood.
