BetterCloud Launches Platform APIs to Secure Entire SaaS Application Ecosystem
Highly anticipated release offers customers and partners a new set of sophisticated APIs and an advanced scripting platform for automating IT & security operations across any SaaS application
NEW YORK, Feb. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BetterCloud, the leading SaaS Operations Management platform, today unveiled "BetterCloud Platform APIs" — the company's most anticipated release to date. The new solution enables IT and security teams to protect business-critical data within any SaaS application, beyond the set of applications currently supported natively by BetterCloud. This is made possible via a new set of sophisticated BetterCloud APIs that connect to any application and an advanced scripting platform that enables developers to write custom automation and security policies for their SaaS application of choice. With the BetterCloud Platform APIs, companies now have the automation and authorization layer they need to fully automate complex IT admin processes, secure and control user activity and prevent unauthorized data access across their SaaS application stack.
"Enterprises today face a major data security crisis. The traditional perimeter-based security paradigm that once kept a company's information assets safe from outside threats simply doesn't work in the cloud," said David Politis, CEO and Founder of BetterCloud. "Employees now connect to internal and external networks from anywhere and via an astonishing number of cloud-based applications. This phenomenon has rendered the notion of a defensible barrier or device a fallacy and has given rise to a new perimeter: the user. Companies now realize the only way to secure their business-critical data is to follow the user and their interactions at the application level. BetterCloud Platform APIs was specifically developed to address this gap in security across enterprise-level organizations."
The BetterCloud Platform APIs provide industry-leading benefits to mid-market and large enterprise organizations. Primary components of the BetterCloud Platform APIs include:
- Scripting Platform creates a centralized scripting library with robust security controls. Teams can collaborate on scripts with other developers, and non-coders can leverage scripts as part of their own management workflows and security policies. BetterCloud also maintains an audit log of all actions taken by custom scripts, giving teams the documentation needed for compliance.
- Trigger Inputs enable teams to kick off security policies and management workflows from a specific event, such as an alert from a SIEM provider, ticket from an ITSM or help desk system, or new hire notification from an HRIS. This feature enables organizations to leverage insights from one application to inform the policies and workflows taken from another application.
- Action Extensions enable IT and security to take admin actions in other applications, including deleting licenses, changing entitlements, creating tickets, or sending audit logs to a SIEM provider. This feature extends the power of BetterCloud policies to all of the technologies that power your digital workplace.
- Graph API allows customers to ingest and analyze cross-application data that is uniquely collected in BetterCloud to identify security trends and report on the metrics that matter to them. This feature opens up BetterCloud to customers, allowing them to view their data in a cross-cutting manner and understand the connection between disparate SaaS data objects.
BetterCloud is already integrating its platform APIs with several cloud platform vendors to enhance mutual customer experiences.
BetterCloud is in the process of utilizing its platform APIs to integrate with ServiceNow ITSM to automate common help desk requests and save hours of time and increase productivity for both IT and employees.
"BetterCloud will help to enable ServiceNow's vision of making the world of work better for people by transforming the IT experience and driving operational excellence through automation," said Avanish Sahai, VP ISV/Technology Alliances at ServiceNow.
"There is an undeniable connection between simple access to work apps and improvements in productivity and morale for employees. At the same time, IT must balance employee choice with the company's need to secure sensitive information. Our unified endpoint management solution, VMware Workspace ONE, helps companies better secure all devices, OS platforms and apps across their digital workspace environment. The integration of Workspace ONE with BetterCloud's platform APIs will help our mutual customers manage and better secure SaaS applications being deployed across their network," said Adam Rykowski, Vice President, Products, End-User Computing, VMware.
"BetterCloud complements MobileIron's cloud security vision and reference architecture by providing granular security operations policies for an organization's sanctioned cloud applications. By integrating BetterCloud Platform APIs with MobileIron Common Platform Services (CPS) APIs, we can further expose commonly used device admin actions directly within BetterCloud workflows — allowing our customers to fully operationalize IT & security tasks for onboarding/offboarding processes and remediation of security threats.," said Suresh Batchu, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at MobileIron.
BetterCloud invites any cloud technology and service company to integrate and build IT automation and security policies with its new Platform APIs. For information on how to establish a partnership with BetterCloud, please visit https://www.bettercloud.com/partners/.
