NEW YORK, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- With the start of spring, Better Homes and Gardens magazine and BHG.com are offering tips to gardeners anxious to get started now that the good weather is here. "Our gardening team at Better Homes and Gardens loves spring – it's truly their favorite time of year," said Doug Crichton, BHG Network Editorial Director. "Each year at this time, we update BHG.com with tips we receive from gardeners throughout the year and include the latest gardening trends. We're really excited this year to be giving away a Honda hybrid and encourage gardeners to stop by the website each day to enter."
For gardeners wanting to create a new garden, there are free garden plans for all kinds of special gardens at BHG.com. It suggests layouts and plants for drought-resistant front and back yards, small gardens, easy-to-maintain gardens, vegetable gardens and more. The BHG.com plant encyclopedia is also very helpful for planning a new garden and for experienced gardeners who want all the details about what they are thinking about planting. It contains names and photos for easy identification of flowers, vegetables and herbs and recommends the best time for planting in each climate region.
Although it's a little early to think about growing vegetables, some vegetables can be started now and certainly it's not too early to plan that vegetable garden. BHG.com has all kinds of information on everything from the basics, such as tips for growing tomatoes and making the most of your salad garden, to specialties, such as creating an edible landscape. After the planting, there are also tips for harvesting and storing the veggies.
For gardeners who live with tiny gardens or want to make use of their patios and balconies, BHG.com features ideas for container gardening. Gardeners will find photos for small hanging containers, container gardening plans, window box containers and, of course, edible kitchen garden containers.
Coming up on May 7 is this year's National Public Gardens Day and, to commemorate the event, BHG.com has created a portfolio of arboretums around the country. The public gardens locator will help gardeners find ones near them. National Public Gardens Day is the perfect time for gardeners to step out and get inspiration from their local public gardens and show the importance of gardening in their community.
