Beth Dewey's 'Erasing Eden' to Screen at DTLA Film Festival
Breeda Wool stars alongside Los Angeles - a central character in the modern, gritty feature
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Erasing Eden, the new feature from Beth Dewey, will screen Monday, September 26, at Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles (DTLA Film Fest). The film premiered at the 14th Annual Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) this past June, to rave reviews. Toronto Film Scene's Andrew Parker called it, "a unique and emotional character piece you shouldn't miss." Erasing Eden also is an official selection of the Stubbornly Independent competition at next month's Tallgrass Film Festival.
Breeda Wool (UnREAL, The Betas) stars as Eden, a young woman who plunges her life into chaos by drinking herself into a blackout the night before her wedding. When day breaks, she's far from home and must make an unexpected - and unconventional - trek through Los Angeles, facing the ultimate soul-searching. In the course of one of the most harrowing wedding days in cinematic history, Eden does not speak - yet her voice is heard using a creative story telling device.
"Like Eden, Los Angeles has aspects that are both merciful and unforgiving," said Dewey, a three-time Emmy Award nominee as editor of the Oscars telecast, whose acclaimed short films, web series and indie features speak to the dichotomy of the human experience. Sidewalk saviors. Patient dumping. Law enforcement and the homeless. Eden sees it all and encounters compassion, danger, and indifference in equal measure. Throughout, the film turns "damsel in distress" tropes on their ear. "Gender roles are evolving especially within classic male/female relationships," Dewey observed. "Eden demonstrates that the modern woman no longer needs a hero or villain in her life. She can be both."
In addition to Wool, whose breakout role on Lifetime's UnREAL led to the successful spinoff The Faith Diaries, the film stars Ben Rovner (Area 51), Suanne Spoke (Whiplash) and David Carrera (The Fosters). Dewey wrote the film, with a Screen Story by Justo Diaz (the two are now at work on the action movie Pimp Girl). Tina Pavlides produced. Yasu Tanida (NBC's State of Affairs & The Blacklist) served as DP, with Make-Up by Molly Tissavary, known for her work on Transparent and The Hateful Eight.
Erasing Eden screens Monday, September 26th, at 7:30pm, Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE.
