DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the technology industry and the leading provider of vendor-neutral skills certifications for tech workers around the world, said today it is seeking beta exam test-takers for its newest certification.
CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ is a vendor-neutral certification that validates the knowledge and skills required to perform a host of cybersecurity tasks related to securing and protecting applications and systems within an organization. It applies behavioral analytics to the IT security market to improve the overall state of IT security.
"As attackers have learned to evade traditional signature-based solutions, an analytics-based approach has become extremely important," said Dr. James Stanger, senior director, products, CompTIA.
"Analytics have been successfully integrated in business intelligence, retail, financial services and other industries for decades," Stanger continued. "Applying analytics to cybersecurity greatly improves the threat visibility across a broad attack surface by focusing on network behavior, including an organization's interior network. Threat detection accuracy, prioritization and the reduction of false positives are key benefits of using analytics."
To ensure proper assessment, the exam for CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ is performance-based and includes hands-on simulations.
"IT security has expanded from traditional signature-based security of firewalls and antivirus software to an analytics-based approach," said Patrick Lane, senior manager, products, CompTIA. "In our exam simulations, test-takers must perform a security analyst's job tasks, including configuring and using threat detection tools; performing data analysis; and interpreting the results to identify vulnerabilities, threats and risk."
CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ is designed as an intermediate-level credential for cybersecurity professionals with at least two to three years of on-the-job experience. It bridges between the professional level CompTIA Security+ for cybersecurity professionals with at least two years of on-the-job experience, and the mastery level CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner certification, which targets security pros with five or more years of experience.
CompTIA recommends that beta test-takers have a minimum of two to three years of hands-on information security or related experience. Additionally, they should be CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ certified, or have equivalent knowledge.
