Each year, in recognition of World Malaria Day (celebrated on April 25th), Bestnet endeavors to create new ways to help to increase LLIN user compliance. In past years, Bestnet has created and distributed school lesson plans, posters, books, videos and songs. The objective of the contest was to design an original Netprotect® LLIN that helps to increase user compliance either through its attractive design or the message it delivers.
Netprotect® LLINs are durable, affordable and available in the widest number of sizes, shapes and colors available on the market. Netprotect® is the only brand of WHOPES recommended LLINs that can be customized with imprints to bear a logo or message. Customized logo nets can further increase an LLINs attractive appearance, further increasing the desire for user ownership and user compliance.
"We are pleased to announce that Mr. Beliz, an employee in the Acquisitons Unit, of the Regional Office for the UN World Food Programme, in Panama City, Panama has been chosen as the winner of the contest due to the original and exciting design he submitted," said Trine Sig, Bestnet Managing Director. She continued, "We are pleased that so many individuals and organizations submitted a total of over 75 original designs for the contest. All Bestnet employees were invited to vote on the designs submitted to choose the first place winner. The design submitted by Mr. Beliz was chosen as the first prize winner, as it so clearly illustrates Bestnet's vision."
The design delivers the message "Stop Malaria Now" in a unique way. The word "stop" was cleverly stylized so that it forms a representation of a mosquito in the position necessary for it to bite a human and possibily transmit malaria. As the winner, Mr. Beliz will be provided with the opportunity to donate 50 Netprotect® LLINs printed with his original design to the organization of his choice.
