Best-Selling Root:1 Chilean Wine to Plant 10,000 Trees
Spring and Summer Program Supports Global ReLeaf in United States and South America
SEATTLE, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- This spring and summer, consumers can help 10,000 trees take root as they enjoy Root:1 from Vina Ventisquero, the most sought-after super premium Chilean wine, with Root:1's third annual "Together We Can Plant a Forest" program. Now through August sales of Root:1 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Carmenere will support tree-planting and ecosystem restoration projects throughout the United States and South America, donating one dollar from the sale of every bottle up to $10,000.
Now in its third year, the program has the potential to give roots to over 30,000 trees. According to the American Forests' Global ReLeaf program, 30,000 trees, over the course of their lifetime, will offset approximately 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of taking nearly 2,000 cars off the road for a year and covers an amount of land equivalent to 10 Fenway Parks or 50 football fields.
"We are losing approximately one million acres of America's forests each year - and global deforestation is even more rampant," says Greg Meyer, Vice President of Marketing & Development, American Forests. "Partnerships, such as this one with Root:1, are important to our sustainability efforts. Every tree planted helps clean our air, purify our drinking water, provide homes for wildlife and remove carbon dioxide from our atmosphere."
The "Together We Can Plant a Forest" program is fully consistent with Vina Ventisquero's, philosophy of sustainable viticulture. Vina Ventisquero's farming and winemaking practices are specifically tailored to nurture the unique attributes of its vineyards, environment and community. The results of this stewardship are found in the consistent high quality of every bottle of Root:1. Sourced from the best vineyards in Chile's most prestigious growing regions, with each varietal being produced in its ideal microclimate, Root:1 wines are crafted to be balanced, fruit forward and expressive of the terroir.
According to AC Nielsen, Root:1 Cabernet is the best-selling imported Cabernet over $10 (12 weeks ending 12/12/09). All Root:1 varietals are available nationwide for the suggested retail price of $12.99.
Global ReLeaf is American Forests' education and action program that helps individuals, organizations, and corporations improve the local and global environment by planting and caring for trees.
