Bessemer Venture Partners Names Amit Karp and Sunil James to Vice President
MENLO PARK, Calif. and LARCHMONT, N.Y., July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP), a $4 billion global firm backing great entrepreneurs leading transformative hyper-growth companies, today announced it has promoted Amit Karp to vice president. In addition, the firm also announced that Sunil James has joined the firm from Google in the same capacity. Both Amit and Sunil will work closely with BVP's investing partners to identify entrepreneurial opportunities in start-ups aligned with the mobile, cloud, security and infrastructure roadmaps.

Amit focuses on investments in the software, mobile and digital media sectors. In addition to identifying the next leaders in these sectors, Amit works closely with existing portfolio companies including Thinking Phone Networks, Vasona, Cloudlock, Apperian, Qwilt and Syncsort. Prior to joining BVP, Amit was a senior associate in McKinsey & Company focused on IT strategy and Telecom. Earlier he was product lead at Mercado (now part of Adobe Software). Amit holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science & Bioinformatics, Cum Laude, from Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology. Sunil is based out of the firm's Menlo Park, CA office, where he focuses on investments in information security and cloud infrastructure, particularly software-defined networking. In this role he draws on his extensive experience and expertise in cloud computing, networking, and information security. Sunil joins BVP from Google, where he led product management for Google Cloud Platform's networking division. Previously, Sunil served as senior product manager at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he defined requirements and go-to-market strategy for Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, Amazon VM Import, and AWS Direct Connect. Prior to AWS, Sunil was at Mandiant, where he was responsible for the overall product strategy of Mandiant Intelligent Response (MIR). Before Mandiant, Sunil was in both product and engineering roles at Arbor Networks and iDefense (a VeriSign division).
