WALTHAM, Mass., Jan. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Johnson-Cramer, D.B.A, the founding director and former interim dean of the Freeman College of Management at Bucknell University, has been named as the new Dean of Business and the McCallum Graduate School at Bentley University. The appointment follows a nationwide search by a committee of faculty and staff from across the university and will take effect on July 1, 2019.
Johnson-Cramer is an expert in strategic management with extensive academic leadership experience. As dean, he will focus on academic innovation and raising Bentley's national and international reputation. He will also continue the university's efforts to build a graduate school portfolio that prepares its students for the business world of tomorrow. Johnson-Cramer joins the academic leadership team of Bentley President Alison-Davis Blake, who took office last July. That team is led by Provost Lynne Rosansky, Ph.D., and includes the Dean of Arts & Sciences Rick Oches, Ph.D.
"As one of the top business schools in the country, Bentley is continuing to transform business education to ensure our students thrive in their careers and lives," says Davis-Blake. "I'm excited to work with Michael as we imagine the future of the university."
At Bucknell, Johnson-Cramer led the creation of the School of Management, which began inside the College of Arts and Sciences and became the Freeman College of Management. Under his direction, the school achieved AACSB accreditation in three years, implemented an interdisciplinary curriculum serving 550 undergraduates, and concluded a successful, comprehensive capital campaign. He oversaw the transition to the College of Management in 2017, serving as interim dean.
Johnson-Cramer also served as associate dean of faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences, where he collaborated on faculty compensation, diversity and inclusion efforts, and academic policy issues. His research focus is on the intersection of strategy and business ethics, a field which has never been more important and one in which Bentley has long been a national leader. Bentley established the country's first Center for Business Ethics in 1976.
Johnson-Cramer received his A.B. from Harvard, his M.B.A. from the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, and his D.B.A. from Boston University. In addition to his experience at Bucknell, he served as assistant professor of management at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and as a lecturer at the Boston University School of Management and the Boston University School of Communications.
Johnson-Cramer will take over from current interim Dean of Business Donna Maria Blancero.
