Benefitfocus provides a software platform that is designed to simplify the complexities of the evolving healthcare and benefits landscape. The company completed a successful initial public offering on the NASDAQ Stock Market in September 2013. This past December, Governor Haley joined Jenkins and other community leaders at the groundbreaking of the campus expansion that will triple the size of the company's footprint from 13 acres to 40 acres on Daniel Island. Governor Haley was also present on Daniel Island for the unveiling of the Benefitfocus Design + Engineering Building in December 2012, providing a space where software engineers can develop their skills and talent for designing technology solutions that streamline benefit enrollment and management for employers and insurance carriers.
"The success Benefitfocus has experienced comes from a combination of great work ethic, strong company environment, and a dedicated skilled workforce," said Gov. Haley. "Benefitfocus cares for its associates and together they have worked to make the company what it is today. The Benefitfocus team has made South Carolina incredibly proud and demonstrated why we will remain highly involved in the tech industry."
Previously, Benefitfocus was recognized both for its rapid growth and unique culture. In 2012 and 2013, the company was named one of the best places to work in the state by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. The company also received the Trailblazer Award in 2013 from the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, acknowledging its commitment to creating cutting-edge technology and its impact on the Charleston region.
"Benefitfocus is committed to a culture of design and engineering," said Shawn Jenkins, President and CEO of Benefitfocus. "It's an honor to be recognized by Governor Haley for what we have accomplished as a company and what we will continue to accomplish as we grow in South Carolina and elsewhere. As we expand our campus footprint and have more associates join the Benefitfocus Team, we plan to extend and develop our culture within a larger community. With this expansion and the continued support from the state, we look forward to growing the knowledge-based economy in South Carolina."
The first phase of the campus expansion project, a 145,000 square foot Customer Success Center, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.
