Ben Rowe Becomes Creative Director of Shaun Leane
LONDON, May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Benjamin Rowe has been named Creative Director of the Shaun Leane Jewellery House after working alongside company CEO Shaun Leane since the company's founding in 1999.
With a background in fine arts, Rowe moved to London in 1998 to study jewellery-making at Sir John Cass. Upon discovering Leane's early work for Alexander McQueen in the jewellery book Unclasped, he approached Leane to solicit a work experience that would change the direction of his whole career.
From rented benches in a cramped jeweller's studio, Rowe's knowledge blossomed under Leane's tutelage. His first catwalk experience was assisting Shaun with the Silver Rose Corset for Givenchy Haute Couture (SS00); and his most memorable fitting the Pheasant Claw & Tahitian Pearl Choker for McQueen's "What a Merry-Go-Round" show in AW01/02. After finishing his degree in 2001, Rowe began working full-time for Shaun Leane.
From the beginning, Rowe drew and designed with Leane, assisting not only with catwalk work, but with every bespoke jewellery commission, commercial collection and high-end collaboration. An incredible partnership of chemistry and balance, the pair created the exceptional "Queen of the Night" necklace for Boucheron's 150th Anniversary; the "White Light" brooch for DeBeer's Forevermark; along with the most iconic Alexander McQueen catwalk pieces of the past decade.
Since 2000, Rowe has co-designed the house's silver jewellery and fine jewellery collections with Leane, including the celebrated and iconic Entwined, Signature Tusk, Hook My Heart; and the award winning Cherry Blossom Collection.
Ben Rowe became a Director of Shaun Leane in 2007; and was named Creative Director in 2011.
