Belo Corp. Announces Venture with Mendelson Entertainment Group and Media 13 to Produce and Distribute an Original Series of Sports Documentaries
DALLAS, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Television company Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC) announced today the formation of Texas 28 Films LLC, a venture with two Dallas-based companies, Mendelson Entertainment Group LLC (MEG) and Media 13 – Multimedia Productions and Consulting, LLC (Media 13), to produce and distribute a groundbreaking documentary series tentatively titled Texas 28.
Texas 28's first season – consisting of four episodes – is slated to debut sometime between October 2012 and August 2013. The Series will present sports stories uniquely representing the Texas experience while demonstrating national relevance. Barry Mendelson of MEG and King Hollis of Media 13 will lead all aspects of the production and distribution efforts while serving as the Series' Executive Producer and Producer, respectively.
"We're pleased to be working with Mendelson Entertainment Group and Media 13," said Kathy Clements, Belo's senior vice president/Media Operations. "The excellent work of MEG and Media 13 on the successful series Children's Med Dallas engaged the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We believe the Texas 28 concept is timely and fits well with Belo's strategy of providing unique and compelling content to viewers."
Barry Mendelson, Executive Producer of Children's Med Dallas, has a long history of making compelling television for major networks, network affiliates and cable networks.
"This is a watershed moment for creators of original content," said Mendelson. "We're thrilled to partner with Belo. As a media company, they're an indispensable part of Texas and truly seen as forward thinkers who look for ways to move the dial."
"We believe the explosion of sports-specific channels has created a thirst for original sports content that connects with viewers while bringing to life the deeper meaning that sports has within the American experience," said Mendelson. "And Texas, with a rich history of sports excellence, provides an immense pool of story material."
Lindell Singleton, a Series Producer/Director of Texas 28 added, "Sports is a two-way mirror illuminating and reflecting our values, hopes and dreams. Sports are more than games or simple pastimes. Our goal is to interpret and present such compelling stories with relevance and meaning that they transcend the sports arena."
Texas 28 will be shot on locations in and around the state of Texas.
"King, Lindell and I take a classic, almost traditional vision of our mission," said Mendelson. "We want to make quality content that's entertaining and shaped around the principles of respect for our audience and integrity of design."
