MONTREAL, April 22, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell is pleased to recognize Mr. Albert Jean de Grandpré, Founding Director and Chairman Emeritus of BCE Inc., for the 2013 Prix de carrière awarded to him by the Québec Employers Council, honouring him for his outstanding contribution to Québec society.

Mr. de Grandpré joined Bell in 1966 as the company's General Counsel, and was a progressively senior leader at the company. In 1976, he was appointed Bell's Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Bell built its telecommunications leadership position with positive growth across its many business segments. Mr. de Grandpré led the formation and growth of Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE), which is now a $20 billion Québec-based company delivering industry-leading employee, infrastructure, R&D and community investment.
A widely respected executive throughout his career, Mr. de Grandpré was appointed to a significant number of advisory and governing board positions at major Canadian and international corporations.
Mr. de Grandpré is a Companion of the Order of Canada and is Chancellor Emeritus of McGill University, a lifetime member of the Canadian Bar Association, member Emeritus of the Association of the Canada General Counsels, and a member of the Bar of Québec.
Born in Montréal in 1921, Mr. de Grandpré was educated at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf and McGill University. In 1943, he graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law and as a Faculty of Law gold medalist. Mr. de Grandpré has also received honorary doctorates from the University of Québec, McGill University, Université de Montréal, University of Ottawa and Bishop's University.
This is the 31st straight year the Prix de carrière has been awarded to an individual of distinction.
