Belfonti Announces Expansion Of Northford Ice Pavilion In Northford, CT
$4.5MM Expansion Completed in January 2016
HAMDEN, Conn., Jan. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Northford Ice Pavilion LLC, Marty Roos, John Lashar, Al Secondino and Michael Belfonti have just completed construction of a $4.5MM expansion of their existing 2,000 seat ice skating facility at 24 Fire-Lite Place in Northford, CT. The new facility has more rinks under one roof than any other Connecticut ice skating venue. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for January 29 at 3:30 p.m. and the Grand Opening will be held on February 6, 2016 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., with free public skating to be offered during those hours.
The Northford Ice Pavilion originally opened in 1998 after the four partners saw a need for an ice rink facility in New Haven county which could service neighboring communities. "We originally chose Northford because of its close proximity to many towns that did not have their own ice skating rinks," said partner Marty Roos. "The Connecticut economy has improved over the last several years and the popularity of ice hockey has increased, and we experienced a stronger demand for ice time. We recognized that a third rink was necessary," added partner John Lashar.
Many Division I, Division II and Division III college hockey players trained at the Northford Ice Pavilion. To date, 12 of these college players have gone on to become professional hockey players in the NHL, including Jonathan Quick (a Con Smythe trophy winner and current goaltender with the Los Angeles Kings), Max Pacioretty (captain of the Montreal Canadiens), Nick Bonino (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Cam Atkinson (Columbus Blue Jackets).
The original two ice surfaces of the Northford Ice Pavilion, as well as the new third rink, were built by one of the partners, Al Secondino, and his company A. Secondino and Son of Branford, CT. Mr. Secondino's company is a full service general contracting company that has been in continuous operation for over a century. In fact, its founder (Al's grandfather) built the NY Metropolitan Opera House. "We are very excited about the expansion of the facility and are looking forward to servicing the hockey and figure skating communities for many years to come," said Al Secondino.
The expansion project was financed by a loan from United Bank, and Northford Ice Pavilion, LLC is also working on a possible loan from the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development with its legal counsel, Susan Bysiewicz of Pastore & Dailey, LLC.
