DALLAS, May 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Behringer Harvard is pleased to be the recipient of an Everyday Heroes Award presented by Big Thought, a Dallas-based non-profit organization that has provided creative learning programs that help kids imagine possibilities, excel academically and contribute to their communities since 1987.

The Everyday Heroes Award recognizes organizations and individuals that give their time and talents to schools and community organizations dedicated to providing creative learning programs and opportunities to children and families in the classroom, home and community.
This is the second year that Behringer Harvard and Big Thought have partnered to develop and co-sponsor the Cityville project, an after-school educational program that teaches students about the fundamentals of commercial real estate. Participating students of Jerry R. Junkins Elementary School in Dallas have been involved in mock, ground-up development exercises mimicking real-world activities such as forming a limited liability company; calculating project costs; and understanding government relationships, architectural design and construction phases.
"We're pleased to receive this honor for supporting a program that fits so well with Behringer Harvard's goal to give back to the children and families in our community. It also furthers Big Thought's mission to supplement traditional education with creative learning experiences for students who may be struggling academically," said Mr. Jason Mattox, COO of Behringer Harvard. "Behringer Harvard employees have found it rewarding to share their expertise and help students become more aware of careers in commercial real estate and investments. We hope this program contributes, even in a small way, to the development of youth who will one day become part of an educated workforce equipped to address the business challenges of tomorrow."
