Behavioral Health Providers Learn New Ways to Treat Addictions and Substance Use Disorders
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Clinicians, addiction physicians, psychiatrists, researchers and academicians who treat patients with substance use disorders (SUDs) gathered for a one-day Addiction Treatment Symposium. The symposium, provided by the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Southeast ATTC) and sponsored by New Directions Behavioral Health®, trained attendees about the latest innovations and evidence-based treatments that are improving care for people with addiction.
Industry experts Karen Garrett and David Duresky from ATTC shared emerging recovery-oriented systems of care (ROSC), which is a national model for addiction prevention, treatment and recovery. They also explained new approaches to supplementing treatment with medicine, known as medically-assisted detox treatment, to safely reduce the cravings for opioids on an outpatient basis.
"SUDs have presented challenges to the health care industry, society, families and individuals for centuries," said Duresky. "New research enables us to identify evidence-based treatment practices and effectively improve the outcomes of the clients we serve. We are excited to partner with New Directions and implement this research into practice throughout Florida."
Prescription drug misuse continues to grow and has become Florida's "fastest-growing and deadliest public safety issue," according to a report issued by the Florida Office of the Attorney General.
"As a behavioral health organization, we are seeing a strong demand for SUD treatment and addiction prevention in Florida," said Darryl Donlin, vice president of New Directions. "These are key reasons why we are working hard to collaborate with providers and offer the most up-to-date SUD best practices and research. By partnering with industry experts such as the Southeast ATTC, both organizations can share the latest trends, technologies and tools with providers and improve the quality of addiction treatment and recovery for our members across the state."
Both organizations will hold similar events across the state throughout the year.
One of the fastest growing behavioral health care companies in the nation, New Directions helps people live healthy, balanced lives by offering behavioral health care solutions and services, employee assistance programs (EAPs), organizational consulting and health coaching programs.
