BECU Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications
Since 1995 the BECU Foundation has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to outstanding BECU members
SEATTLE, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of BECU's commitment to education and assisting outstanding students, BECU Foundation's annual scholarship application process is now open. The BECU Foundation will give out at least 25 merit based scholarships, each for $2,500. The submission deadline is March 31, 2010 and recipients will be announced by May 31. Applications are now available online at www.becu.org/scholarship.
BECU Foundation scholarships recognize and award outstanding community service by graduating high school seniors and undergraduate students. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's academic achievements, leadership abilities, and passion for helping others.
"With the help of our business partners, member donations, and the support of our communities, since 1995 we have been able to assist more than 500 outstanding student members with scholarships," said BECU CEO Gary Oakland. "As a not-for-profit credit union, BECU and our Foundation are committed to giving back to our members and investing in the communities we serve."
Each year, the BECU Foundation also awards two scholarships to honor the memory of two past BECU executives: W. Jim Roller, former CEO of BECU Financial Services, and M. Bud Jewell, former President and CEO. These honors go to the top scoring high school and college scholarship recipients.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Only BECU members may apply. Accounts must be in the name of the applicant. All Washington state residents are eligible to join, check out www.becu.org/join.aspx
- Applicants must be students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Students must be a graduating high school senior or a full-time undergraduate
- All scholarship recipients must attend college full time. Post-graduate, Masters or Doctorate candidates are not eligible to apply
- Previous recipients may not apply for additional scholarships
