Bechtel Engineer Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

RESTON, Va., May 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bechtel Mining & Metals global operations manager, Andy Phelps, has been awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Lifetime Achievement Award for construction. The OPAL awards honor civil engineering leaders who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement leadership and a long-term commitment to excellence.

In his 37-year career with Bechtel, Phelps has worked on some of the company's most challenging projects, including an assignment as program director for Bechtel's support of the U.S. government in providing housing in Mississippi for victims of Hurricane Katrina. His work on large capital projects, plant operations, environmental remediation, and business development has taken him across the globe, to the United Kingdom, Canada, the Middle East, and Latin America. Phelps has bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Phelps is the fourth Bechtel engineering and construction professional to be honored with ASCE's OPAL Lifetime Achievement Award. ASCE, which was founded in 1852, is America's oldest national engineering society.
